For young people, some choices are especially difficult.
On one side are the demands of daily training, rehearsals, and constant travel between competitions and performances. On the other are the academic responsibilities that cannot be postponed—assignments, exams, and active participation in the classroom. It is not a lack of effort; there are simply only so many hours in a day. When morning training conflicts with first period, when a competition week overlaps with exam week, or when students are away from campus while their coursework continues, we understand the pressure of balancing two equally important commitments.
That is why we wanted to create something specifically for these students.
KLIS is proud to introduce ITAP stands for Individualized Talent Academic Pathway (ITAP)——a dedicated support program designed for elite student-athletes and performing artists competing or performing at national, regional, or international levels.
ITAP is not built around grand promises, but around one simple idea:
“Your passion, your schedule, your path.”
We do not believe students should have to give up the pursuits they deeply value because of rigid academic schedules. At the same time, we do not believe intensive professional training should create academic gaps that are difficult to recover from. ITAP exists to create a thoughtful balance between these two important parts of a student’s journey.
Your Schedule Can Be Built Around You
Every ITAP student receives an individualized schedule designed around their unique commitments.
If morning training is essential, we can arrange a later arrival. If afternoon rehearsals or competitions require flexibility, we can accommodate an early dismissal. If students need dedicated time for focused independent work, we can provide structured study blocks.
All arrangements are designed around the student’s actual training, practice, or performance schedule—not the other way around.
Of course, flexibility does not mean reduced expectations. Outside of agreed absences and approved release times, regular attendance and punctuality remain essential requirements. ITAP emphasises strong on-campus instruction and structured academic support rather than relying primarily on third-party online courses. We believe meaningful support happens within the school environment, alongside teachers who are present and engaged.
A Dedicated Advisor to Keep Academics on Track
A flexible schedule is valuable—but who monitors academic progress? Who follows up on assignments and assessments? These are often the questions parents care about most.
That is why ITAP includes a central support role: the ITAP Advisor. This advisor serves as the student’s personal academic navigator, providing consistent guidance throughout the student’s academic journey.
The role is highly practical: the Advisor maintains communication with classroom teachers to track progress across subjects; coordinates with coaches or artistic mentors to understand external training and performance commitments; and keeps families informed through clear and transparent communication. The Advisor also helps manage assessment schedules, coordinate assignment deadlines, support study periods, and provide English Academic Language support when needed.
Simply put, the Advisor is there to reduce uncertainty for families and stress for students—providing someone to turn to when challenges arise and helping students develop a clear plan to stay organised and on track.
Learning Continues Even When You Are on the Road
For students who frequently travel for competitions, tournaments, or performances, time away from school can often be when academic progress becomes most difficult to maintain.
At ITAP, we believe that students may be away from campus, but their academic momentum should not stop.
To support this, ITAP provides brief remote online check-in meetings. During travel periods, students participate in scheduled one-on-one video meetings with their ITAP Advisor to review current tasks, confirm assignment progress, and clarify questions. These meetings are designed to be brief, focused, and consistent. They are not tutoring sessions or an additional academic burden—they are a way to help students remain organised, receive guidance, and maintain steady academic progress while away from school.
English Is a Habit, Not a Hurdle
All ITAP support is built on a shared foundation: a strong English-language learning environment.
ITAP participants are expected to follow the school’s English-Only Campus Policy. Students are expected to use English on campus, during official school events, and in all ITAP Advisor meetings to support strong academic language development.
This expectation is not designed to create additional difficulty. Instead, we believe that consistent English immersion is an essential part of academic growth. The ITAP Advisor also provides ongoing English language support, helping students use English as a tool for learning rather than a barrier.
A Final Message to Every Parent and Student
We have never believed that education is a single straight path that every student must follow in exactly the same way.
Students who dedicate themselves on the court, who refine their skills on stage through countless hours of practice, deserve to have their commitments recognised and supported.
ITAP is not a shortcut. It is an acknowledgement that every passion matters, and every student’s journey deserves respect.
We see your commitment. We understand your challenges. And we are ready to help you plan your path. The ITAP program is now open for inquiries. If you or your child are standing at the intersection of academics and professional training, we welcome you to contact the school admissions office. Let us sit down together, have a conversation, and explore how this journey can become more balanced, sustainable, and successful.
