KLIS places emphasis on language support for non‑native English speaking students.
In the MAP assessment last semester,
**70% KLIS non‑native
English speaking students**
the grade level of English reading in the world 「which includes students from native English speaking countries using the MAP test」.
For those who have not made their goals yet, we have created new plans for each student and our academic team is redesigning learning activities that will ensure these students finish the year achieving the goals for the year.
In this episode of KLIS Talk,
We've invited Ms. Yuki,
our Primary ESL teacher,
to talk about her
English teaching methods at KLIS.
Individualized Curriculum
When new student enrolls at KLIS, he or she is interviewed by our Instructional Coach who assesses his or her language proficiency and then provides individualized academic support「curriculum」.
Meanwhile the ESL teacher creates an individualized lesson planning based on the student's level of proficiency in order to meet each student's needs.
Push‑in and Pull‑out Support
We adopt push‑in and pull‑out support strategies:
push‑in means that a bilingual co‑teacher is assigned to each classroom to help students understand homeroom teacher's English or subject teacher and provide tutoring in the classroom;
pull‑out means we pull the student out of the classroom and give them separate English education support.
The Bilingual co‑teacher synchronizes information based on the student's performance in the classroom to the student's ESL teacher, who then designs individualized teaching content based on the feedback.
Data‑driven Instruction
We develop data‑supported instructional plan based on the results of each student's different MAP assessments and formative assessment tools.
In addition we utilize multiple international teaching and reading resources to meet the language learning needs of our culturally‑diverse students.
With these ESL teaching methods, KLIS is committed to providing instructional language support to non‑native English speaking students and helping them make continuous progress in their English learning.
