Students from Toddler to High School at KLIS have been preparing for over two months, and now the students' restaurants are officially unveiled.
This is a whole‑school project‑based learning 「PBL」 experiential activity, based on the STEAM teaching methods, using PBL as a vehicle for project practice, while receiving interdisciplinary education outcomes. Students work in grade or teams, deeply reflecting and collaborating during project practice, enhancing their overall abilities.
The core of KLIS education lies in guiding children to self‑education. From the Preschool education,we emphasize learning by doing rather than simply imparting knowledge.
KLIS has been guiding students in continuous project-based learning, and this year, we have our traditional project that spans all grades: the "TASTE OF KLIS" establishing delicious restaurants with international-themed services.
The project is a social research and math-driven project, with science, ELA, music, and
art also being taught and applied to the project.
It's an exciting activity that everyone canunderstand and execute. The proceeds from theproject will be donated to children's charities-Amazing Grace, allowing students to feel adeeper connection to society and the world, understanding the impact they can have onothers' lives and even lives themselves, which isthe correct direction the school aims for inholistic education.
To ensure the final presentation of each restaurant project, KLIS students have gone through every step of the project: assessing what type of restaurant to open, researching the personnel structure and workflow of such restaurants, confirming budget plans, designing the restaurant's visual system, marketing and competitive strategies, and even creating financing plans, attracting investors through presentations.
This project is not just an academic exploration but also practical preparation for students' future social roles. KLIS students have been learning practical skills such as project planning, marketing, cost budgeting, and profit calculation from a young age. These skills are not merely theoretical knowledge but tools they will apply in society.
Through participation in the 'Taste of KLIS' PBL, students learn not only how to operate a restaurant but also the importance of teamwork. Each process, from initial concept to final operation, involves skills such as communication, coordination, problem‑solving, resource management, and financial planning. These skills are crucial as students prepare to enter the workforce or embark on entrepreneurial endeavors, having gained practical experience in a safe learning environment.
