US Common Core Standards

KLIS uses the United States Common Core Standards from PreK through G12. The Common Core is a set of high-quality academic standards and learning goals that outline what a student should know and be able to do at the end of each grade. The standards were created by experts and teachers from across the globe and are designed to ensure all students graduate from high school with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in university anywhere around the world.

Within the KLIS Curriculum Framework, our standards evaluate multiple skills within each objective, allowing for a greater development in critical thinking and problem-solving. Our standards make it possible for the teachers to track individualized student progress throughout the year with greater detail, allowing for customized plans to be developed that can address any potential deficiencies right away.

In the past, it was simply good enough for a student to come up with the correct answer. A smart enough student could look up the answer from a different source, write it down, and get their grade. With information access at its highest levels in history, the KLIS curriculum forces students to do more than find the correct answer. They must also be able to show how they arrived at their specific answer and then be able to appropriately defend it.

The KLIS Academic Standards are:

Research and evidence-based.
Clear, understandable, and consistent.
Aligned with college expectations globally.
Based on rigorous content and application of knowledge through higher-order thinking skills.
Informed by top performing countries around the world in order to prepare all students for success in our global society.
