Welcome to the KLIS Living Wax Museum!

Friday 5th of March 2021 | Campus Life

Recently, KLIS held a fun PBL (Project Based Learning) exhibition where children dressed up as wax figures of different celebrities and stood quietly in their respective areas, waited for visitors to approach them. When visitors rang the bell in front of the wax figure, it immediately came to life and began to talk about the celebrity that they were dressed as in the first person.

African American History Month is celebrated every February to celebrate the achievements of African Americans against all odds and recognize the important role that African Americans have played in the development of American history. While KLIS students were learning about this part of history, Ms. Tara chose to conduct a PBL activity to teach students about this part of history and the influential African-Americans in history.

The PBL project was launched last November, with Ms. Tara introducing students to different historical figures in different fields every day. And students chose the figures they are interested in to conduct research, write short essays, create PPTs and posters, and finally present inspirational stories of the figures in first person.

"The essence of the whole PBL project process is to let students learn on their own, while the teacher plays the role of a facilitator, guiding them on how to better complete the project.

——Ms.Tara

In addition to the well-known basketball star Michael Jordan and boxing champion Muhammad Ali, the students portrayed influential figures in politics, science, art, and literature.

Alma Thomas, an artist dressed up by one of the children, is an artist not well known to the teacher. " I have never heard of Alma Thomas, so my student taught me history I didn't know." Ms. Tara was pleasantly surprised by this.

"Each child has developed in many ways. On one hand, students can learn about the diverse history and culture from famous historical figures and learn the spiritual qualities they show; on the other hand, they exercise and improve their ability to do research papers, write essays and give speeches, enhance their English expression and build up their confidence."
